Following the success of last year’s inaugural Report, Sybarite appointed Sarah Miller & Partners, in collaboration with TM, to commission and design The Sybarite Report 2019, ‘The Future of Luxury Retail’.

This was the second report commissioned by Sybarite architects, produced in partnership with leading analyst GlobalData, and it identified key market trends such as how the lines between commerce and culture are blurring with hospitality, as well as the most successful luxury department stores in the world by sales per sq. ft.  It also analysed the ever-evolving definition of luxury retail: specifically, how the department store continues to be relevant with a top 20 list of the most successful department stores in the world.

The report included expert commentary from contributors including Nick Compton, Senior Editor at Wallpaper*; Tom Cheshire, Asia Correspondent at Sky News; Louise Nichol, Former editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar Arabia; Dubai-based fashion journalist Sujata Assomull; and Victoria Buchanan, Strategic Researcher at The Future Laboratory.

Highlights from this year’s report include a global ranking of luxury department stores, based on sales per square metre in 2018, and six key consumer trends including, driving luxury success: modernising heritage, cultural collaborations, brand educators, food and beverage, conscious fashion and virtual exclusivity.

Sarah Miller & Partners were appointed by Sybarite to conceive the theme, commission and edit content, and together with partners TM be responsible for design and art direction.
